Trashing “XXX DOMAIN”

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), is a body responsible for setting and regulating the domain name. ICANN rejects the proposal to create adult website. The domain name .xxx is a suffix for a pornography sites that was believed to be highly politicized although Chief of ICANN, Paul Twomey deny and said that their decision was not driven by a political consideration. The much awaited decision regarding this 5 year battle was put to an end by the ICANN board. The board voted 9 of 5.

ICM registry who proposed the idea of .xxx stirred up controversy, stemming from the circumstances that surrounds this domain. A lot of people specially the conservative and/or religious groups opposed the idea of this domain name. They believe that it would legitimize pornography. On the other hand the advocates of this plan see that it will be much easier for the web user to avoid porn. They state that parents can easily filter adult materials like hardcore porn or rape porn.

We know that ICANN decision left few people unhappy but if this matter was carried out irresponsibly or carelessly it will create a public outrage. Now, In this much talk about domain, You might wonder which side of the fence yours truly sits on. I’m one of those conservative few whose interest wants to safeguard the children from child pornography. First, I’m really thankful to the commitment of ICANN in enforcing what is morally right. They really did a great job by rejecting the idea of creating .xxx domain. This happened not only once but twice, the other took place last December.

I see that it is our primary responsibility to build a real solution instead of compromising the children safety. If pornography have its own domain in the world-wide web it would become more visible to children and it is hard to imagine that it could take away their innocence at an early age. In a sense pornography could monopolize the web by taking advantage of the situations through participating in the .xxx domain and free to remain in the other domain. This is a stupid tactic. It is clear that they are just expanding their reach with this new avenues and proliferating their stupidity. This is totally a cheap gimmick. It is like giving a criminal a legal site to use and show there horrendous act.

I know it will generate criticism to some of you, but at my age I never watch or see a site that shows indecency or sexually in nature, I don’t have a fairly poor taste to enjoy such kind of show. It is so crazy to imagine that those groans and moans which stated by people who often viewed this dumb site will get a copyright.

Being one of the millions of citizens worried that it will be approved It is really relieving to know that US government urge ICANN to delay approval for an extensive global consultation with this matter. Many countries voiced their opinion which also oppose this new domain. However, ICANN’s decision appeared to be politically motivated, with US meddling the decision. What is best here is that we get the best outcome. I believe world-wide web doesn’t need any pornography or a new domain name for porn. We had enough of this garbage!
