Freedom of Religion

Freedom of religion is a principle that supports the freedom of an individual or community, in public or private, to manifest religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship, and observance; the concept is generally recognized also to include the freedom to change religion or not to follow any religion. Freedom of religion is considered by many people and nations to be a fundamental human right.

Freedom of religion is it all worth it? or some are being converted because they just resort to desperate measures.  As far as I’m concerned, there are many countries nowadays that are open to abandoning or changing their religion and/or belief. This is what we called apostasy. This people can also evangelize or convince other to make them move out from that faith like what they did. The countries in North and South America had the lowest rate of government and social restrictions on religion, while The Middle East and North Africa were the regions with the highest restrictions. Islamic States and China are restricting religious activities by missionaries until now. Even Greece is unfavorable of missionary activities.

In 2008, The Christian human rights non-governmental organization launched an in-depth report that features, the individual who leave Islam for another religion faces abuse, For me this is too ridiculous, there is no apparent reason why they need to do it. They shouldn’t restrain anyone who wants to seek their own faith. Unfortunately, Islam strongly see apostasy or what they called ridda as an insult to God. But I can not honestly pretend or say that what they are doing is right. If their follower doesn’t want to belong in that religion, they must give him/her freedom to choose what religion he/she thinks can please him. The International law of freedom of Religion and belief is protected by International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights or (ICCPR). This protection extends to specifically non-religious beliefs such as humanism.

But we can’t deny the fact that minority or disfavored religion still receive injustice and prejudice by religious or non-religious people who holds different faith or belief, it is happening elsewhere across the globe. There were various type of people who do nothing but criticize and express low opinion over other people. while, seeing themselves as superior to others. but isn’t it much more showing that they are a swarm of stupid people? because they show that they do not understand reasons and they accused other people sharply.
In addition, it is also saddening that social hostilities were measured by religion-related terrorism and violence between religious groups. That makes me speculate, what are the motives of this religion? I think the better solution of this problem is to let the other individual practice what he/she believes, for his own sake.

Austria, Switzerland and Germany have a law that allows a minimum age for minors  to follow their own beliefs even if their parents do not share those or do not approve. Germany provides the term  “religious majority” (Religionsmündigkeit) which allows ages 14 and older to exit their religion or enter any other religion, children ages 12 and older can not be change to a different belief. while children ages 10 and older have to be heard before their parents change their religious upbringing to a different belief. October 27 is considered as International Religious Freedom Day, it is in commemoration of the execution of the Boston martyrs for their religious convictions 1658-1661.

I personally believe that setting aside our parents choices or decision is a major thing. but if you feel that you are disheartened or felt no interest with your religion then you can decide what you want to do. You are free to choose whether you want to be in a religion or not. whatever makes you feel comfortable. In any case, you don’t have to be pressured by any religious group or non-religious group/ organization. You are not a prisoner, do not allow anyone to chain your freedom. Forcing people to be in a religion or to stay away from religion really irritates my nerve. You must shape your own destiny. I’m proud to say that my religion, is not in any way like this.
